Of all the things I do about this time each year, few are as much a personal honor as being a part of HAIRraising — the annual, one-day salon fundraiser for Boston Children’s Hospital. Here’s why:
Most of all, it supports Boston Children’s Hospital, a revered institution that helps so many kids who are sick and in need — it’s incredible. And this year, all the money we raise (that’s right: 100 percent) will go directly toward the hospital’s new Heart Center, which will be an amazing addition to help kids from Boston and from around the world who have specialized heart disorders and diseases that can only be treated by the center’s unmatched medical experts.
Here’s how it works: This year’s one-day event will be held this Sunday. You book your appointment for a haircut at any of the participating salons on that day, and not only do you get a top-notch cut by an expert stylist at a steeply discounted price, but you get luxury beauty services with the knowledge that you’re contributing directly to helping save the health and life of a child who truly needs the care. Is there any bigger win-win than that?
The second reason why I’m so honored to be a part of this event: The level of caring that it highlights from the community — both the public and the beauty industry — is both impressive and truly remarkable.
The event was founded in 2010 by hair industry icons (and business partners) John Frieda and Gail Federici, and every year since then it has united salons in raising money to support life-saving care and breakthrough cures, treatments and innovations that bring children from all over the world to Boston Children’s Hospital.
As an industry, of course, we all care about how important it is to make people feel beautiful, but this is an event that brings us all together to work for something bigger. And so many high-quality salons all over Massachusetts are a part of the cause this year, it makes me incredibly proud of my colleagues and the industry as a whole, and of our community, and what it shows about our values.
I can’t encourage you enough to join all of us Sunday, to help save lives and get a great cut. At Grettacole, you can book an appointment on Sunday anytime from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. For Wellesley, call 781-237-5201 and for Boston, call 617-266-6166. (And if you don’t need a cut, just stop by and make a donation!) Find out more about the event at hairraising.org and more about Grettacole’s participation in it at grettastyle.com.
