One of my favorite annual events — one that’s beautiful both inside and out — is about to hit the city this weekend. On Sunday, more than 70 top hair salons across the Boston area will be part of the ninth annual HAIRraising Cut-a-thon fundraiser. What does that mean for you? You can get a gorgeous cut just in time for your fabulous spring makeover. And 100 percent of all haircut proceeds benefit the Heart Center at Boston Children’s Hospital.
At my two GrettaCole salons, in Boston and Wellesley, we see an explosion of positivity and energy, as our clients and staffs work on beautifying everyone, knowing that they’re also giving in a big way to kids who need excellent care for heart disease or heart surgeries and transplants. I can’t tell you how touching and exciting it is to be a part of this event every year.
It’s nothing short of amazing to hear some of the stories of these children who have been helped by the money that HAIRraising has been able to give to Boston Children’s Hospital. Today, HAIRraising has brought in more than $1.2 million for Boston Children’s Hospital Heart Center. The funds let the hospital’s surgeons and researchers deliver advanced medical and surgical treatments for many cardiac diseases and disorders — to children as young as babies and toddlers on up to tweens. These treatments have a 99 percent survival rate, and will continue to save many lives from around the world.
So if you’ve been meaning to get a haircut anyway, been eyeing a hot new look for the warm weather or just need a quick trim, drop what you’re doing and book an appointment for this Sunday. (And you can bring your own kids, too, since they can get a cut at the same time!)
