Anybody who’s ever been on or near a beach on a hot summer day (and hopefully that’s just about everyone in the universe) knows how flat-out criminal the humid sea air can be to our locks. The concept of “beachy waves” sounds all kinds of terrific, but can be nearly impossible to achieve… let alone maintain for any length of time.
So for a wedding we styled hair for at Grettacole, we called in our best experts. Stylists extraordinaire Amber Jarvis and Andrea Lemelin were concerned since the Big Day would take place on a windswept, humid beach–a recipe for drooping and frizzing for the bride and all her bridesmaids if there ever was one.
The two landed on key products (all by Oribe) to make sure everyone would stay smooth and bouncy. For the bridesmaids they used Soft Lacquer Heat Spray on the hair before curling for heat protection and moveable hold. Next came Dry Texture Spray for all-over body and texture, to give the girls some lift after curling and before pinning. Then they finished every girl with Superfine Strong for overall hold.
Meanwhile, there was the bride, Alecia. She’d asked for a “beachy, undone, side-swept look.” For that Andrea created large vertical sections of hair and sprayed each with Oribe Soft Lacquer Heat Styling Spray for heat protection and hold before curling each section with a wand (a clipless iron). She left the ends off the wand so they would remain a bit straighter.
Once she was all curled Andrea sprayed her with the Oribe Dry Texture Spray toward the crown to give her some all-over texture. (She had fine hair, so Andrea needed to give her as much volume as she could.) Then she pinned her to the desired style and finished with Oribe Superfine Strong Hairspray for hold, plus Oribe Shine Light Reflecting Spray for shine.
