The momentous and groundbreaking awards ceremonies kept rolling on this week, as the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards followed the tone set by the Golden Globes in spotlighting the #metoo and #timesup movements. Celebs honored the silence breakers on sexual harassment and called repeatedly for pay equality for women, and the need for more female directors in the entertainment industry. The
And yet, the seriousness of the message didn’t take anything away from the fun and beautiful elements of the evening; almost as if to celebrate their femininity even more than usual, celebrities embraced style and beauty wholeheartedly—from stunning and playful metallic eye art to take-no-prisoners bold lip colors and ultra-glam hair.
Let’s start with Yara Shahidi. I simply couldn’t decide which I adored more: her gorgeous and statement-making textured hair (very Diana Ross circa 1980) looked wild and free, but was actually meticulously created with a dollop of curl-defining cream. And instead of going dramatic on the eyes, she instead opted to go for minimal liner and shadow and were her stunning berry lips—a perfect balance by any measure. That lip color was a creative mix of Chanel lipsticks: Rouge Allure Pirate 99, Rouge Noir 109, and lip balm
Also on the fantastic hair front was Halle Berry. A super high double ponytail kept her look neat and unfussy but also appropriately formal for the evening. And Kristen Bell followed suit with a fancy pony of her own—this one slicked back with a side part, thanks to a helping of mousse. Nicole Kidman rocked a side part as well, with one of her favorite go-to hair tricks: a loose and wavy updo, complete with strategically placed tendrils. (I also loved her rich red, high-drama lipstick.)
Another star in the night’s hair category was Margot Robbie. Worn down, her style was all softness and unfussy, but was kept in control with volumizing mousse and texture spray. And Olivia Munn went in the opposite direction, keeping her dark, center-parted locks straight and impeccably straight—a terrific complement to her radiant makeup: pink blush and a matte lip, with shimmering eyeshadow. Again, a very natural look, but one that still didn’t lack for pizzazz.
Mandy Moore scored another hair-makeup win with her stunning eyeshadow—a deft blending off copper and dark brown that moved into blue on the inner eye. That, with her heavy yet perfectly arched brows stood out against her dark chocolate brunette hair.
And for your next big event, you might want to take a cue from Madeline Brewer, who opted to stand out simply but creatively, with delicate pearls placed along the side of her long, swept-back locks. And with her hair’s deep burnished red hue, their white luster practically jumped out to anyone who set eyes on her—and announced the birth of a new trend in the process.
