Gretta Luxe Staff
For those of us who’ve adored Alexander Wang over the years (for starters, our entire staff at Gretta Luxe in Wellesley), the news that he’s departing from Balenciaga was big. His SS ’16 runway collection will be his last, since Balenciaga and Wang jointly decided not to renew his contract. “With his proven talent and his irreverent, modern vision of design, Alexander Wang has brought a new impetus to the brand,” asserted the press release.
So now the burning question is, What’s next for Balenciaga? Will they hire a creative director externally or will they follow in the footsteps of Gucci (also owned by Kering) and promote an unknown from within?
And other questions persist, too: Will the Le Dix handbag be phased out? It was the bag created under Wang’s direction and is now synonymous with his legacy. (FYI, at Gretta Luxe we currently have them in-store—the Le Dix Soft Cartable retails for $2,225. Make your appointment to get your hands on one today.)
Said Wang about the announcement: ”It’s been an incredible experience to work with a couture house in Paris. I am honored to have had the opportunity to work for this historical maison. I would like to thank the brilliant team at Balenciaga for their collaboration and for what we have accomplished together, and I am looking forward to taking my own brand to its next level of growth.”
Whatever that growth winds up being, all of us at Gretta Luxe can’t wait to witness it!
